District Transition & Path Moving Forward

Dear Members of the VASD Community:

Earlier today, Superintendent Gorrell announced his retirement effective June 30, 2021. The Board wishes to extend its gratitude to Dr. Gorrell for his 15 years of service to the students, staff, families and community of the Verona Area School District (VASD). We are grateful to Dr. Gorrell for his continued commitment to VASD for the next 18 months to lead us through the completion of the building project, the moving of six schools, and the continued work on our strategic plan.

With Dr. Gorrell’s advance notice, the Board is committed to taking this time to ensure a managed transition to a new superintendent. Additionally, the Board has been engaged in a study to evaluate our current leadership team structure and explore potential changes. The Board wants to ensure the effective implementation of our strategic plan and management of our district as we continue to grow.

In keeping with the Board’s commitment to be inclusive in its decision making as demonstrated through the development of our strategic plan and the recent boundary changes, we will do the same in this process. The  Board will be hiring an external search firm to assist us in selecting a new superintendent. The Board will direct that search firm to engage the community, families, staff and students in meaningful and authentic ways.  We will be providing more detail on how you can be involved as those opportunities are determined.

The Board remains incredibly grateful for the community’s unwavering support and commitment to our schools and our students. It continues to be an honor to serve this district during this time of incredible change and to contribute to the shaping of its future, for generations of students to come.

Please feel free to reach out to the Board of Education with any questions you may have by visiting this page for our contact information.

Sincerely,
Noah Roberts – President
