Savanna Oaks Student to Compete in State Geography Bee

This is the image for the news article titled Savanna Oaks Student to Compete in State Geography BeeOn April 1st, Simon, a 6th grader from Savanna Oaks Middle School, will be competing in the state competition of the National Geographic Geography Bee in Madison, WI. He will be competing against 99 other winners from Wisconsin who all won at their school's Geography Bee.

These competitors were also required to completed a geography test. All competitors in the state competition finished the test in the top 100 in the state of Wisconsin. If Simon wins at the state competition, he will receive a globe, a cash prize, a trip to DC and sponsor prizes.

If he wins in Madison, Simon will advance to the National Championship held in Washington DC on May 22-25, 2016. At the National Championship the winner receives a $50,000 scholarship, a lifetime subscription to National Geographic magazine, a Galápagos trip, and $500 cash. The 2nd place winner receives a $25,000 scholarship and $500 cash. The third place winner receives a $10,000 scholarship and $500 cash. The 4th -10th place winners receive $500 cash each.

No student from SOMS has ever made it to the national competition. Good luck to SIMON!
