Verona Area High School students, Alankrit Shatadal and Rachel Knoebl have been selected to be a part of the prestigious Wisconsin School Music Association's High School State Honors Mixed Choir. Both Alankrit and Rachel are active participants of the VAHS choir program under the direction of Heather Thorpe and will be featured in a concert at the Overture Center on Thur. Oct. 27 at 8pm!

Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) State Honors Music Project began in 1967 to provide musically talented youth with the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the nation’s finest conductors in a professional and highly disciplined setting. This year, more than 1,600 students applied to audition for the privilege of being one of the 428 students selected for membership in the five prestigious High School State Honors ensembles.

High School State Honors students attend a four-day summer camp with the conductor of his/her ensemble. In addition, some of Wisconsin’s finest music teachers volunteer their time as section coaches, coordinators, and administrators of these talented students during the June summer camp and at these October concerts.

Music teachers, parents, administrators and the WSMA staff contribute time, talent and encouragement for every student involved in the State Honors Music Project. Young musicians selected for these ensembles discover new levels of individual and group performance. Most importantly, the effort and dedication required of each Honors participant results in a lifelong memory of their initiative, achievement, and commitment to excellence as musicians, and as our future leaders.

The upcoming concert, projected to have record attendance of students, parents, teachers and general public from around the state, marks the highest point of the 2016 WSMA High School State Honors Music Project:

High School State Honors Treble Choir & Mixed Choir Concert
Thursday, October 27, 8 p.m., $17.50 at door

The public is encouraged to attend the concerts, which celebrate the accomplishments of these students and the overall positive impact of music education on their lives. The concerts also commemorate dedicated music teachers throughout Wisconsin, many of whom will be in Madison attending these events in conjunction with the annual Wisconsin State Music Conference.
