Two Way Spanish Immersion Program

Two Way Immersion Program 2018-19

The Verona Area School District is proud to offer the Two-Way Immersion Program as an option for parents to consider for their children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2018. The program is available for all incoming kindergartners and offered at Glacier Edge Elementary School and Sugar Creek Elementary School.

Two-Way Immersion (TWI) is a type of dual language education in which two languages are used for instruction in order to develop language proficiency in both languages. Students will learn 50% of their academic content in Spanish and 50% in English. Our Two-Way Immersion Program will include a classroom make–up of about half native Spanish speakers and half native English speakers. We plan to enroll an equal number of native English speakers and native Spanish speakers, who will learn together throughout the school day in a classroom. Final selection will be based on a lottery system to help ensure the TWI program maintains a balanced class composition.

Students from all attendance areas in the district can apply and will be provided transportation to these sites if chosen for the TWI program.
