Chopped for Kids! is a collaboration between

Jennifer Klawiter’s 2nd and 3rd grade class of New Century School and Keely Graettinger’s High School Culinary Class. The project, funded by the Verona Area Education Foundation, allows kids to choose 10 healthy ingredients that could be used to create a signature dish. The Verona Area High School students will draw out of a hat their “secret” ingredient. They will then research a healthy dish to create with the younger students to create a description of the dish. Miller's shopping Both classes met at Verona's Miller’s Grocery Store to buy the necessary ingredients, choosing the best option of ingredients based on reading labels, making the healthiest choice, and comparing prices to stay in their $20 budget!

Millers shoppers Next step? The two classes will get together at the high school to prepare their dishes. An emphasis on safely preparing a dish, following a recipe, understanding cooking terminology, and using fractions will be used during preparation, as well as cleaning up when finished. The dishes will be judged on three qualities: Taste, Presentation, and Originality by Keely and myself. GOOD LUCK!!!!
