25 Banner Years: A Celebration of Student Art
The Verona Area Education Foundation, in partnership with the City of Verona and Verona Area School District, is excited to announce a new street banner program for 2017 that will highlight local student artistic talent. With the theme of ‘Hometown USA’, this inaugural project features more than 40 student works reproduced on street banners hung on east
and west Verona Avenue in the spring of 2017.
City Banner submission guidelines
(now closed as deadline has passed)
•Student artists and their families and friends are invited to attend the unveiling of the artworks at a special reception at the Verona Public Library on Thursday, May 18th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Printed banners will be on display at the event, and student artists will be able to see their finished work, receive a certificate honoring their achievement and enjoy light refreshments. Banners will remain on display at the library through May 31.
To raise funds for future Banner Year celebrations, and to continue the Education Foundation’s mission of supporting unique and engaging learning opportunities for our students, copies of the banners will be auctioned off following the display period.
•Artists and their families will have an opportunity to purchase their student’s banner for private display without having to participate in the online auction. The cost to purchase the banner is $150, and payment can be made via check at the event, or online prior to the event by clicking here. Please place the banner number and artist’s name on the note to seller.
•Businesses in the area may click here to sponsor
the banner project for $150. This donation will allow your business to receive a supply of walking tour brochures to make available to visitors at your business, and will also have your logo placed on the walking tour brochure in its printed and online formats. Any excess proceeds from this project will be used to fund foundation grants to Verona Area School District staff pursuing creative and innovative projects within the district. Businesses may also choose to purchase a copy of one of the banners, which can be displayed at the business, or home, or simply donate to the student artist. The cost to purchase and/or donate a banner is $150.
Online Video & Brochure
An online video and printed flier will be created identifying the student artists and includes, in their own words, the inspiration behind their Hometown USA-themed piece. These pieces will be made available online via links from the foundation, school district and City, and also through printed brochures available at participating businesses along the East Verona Avenue corridor.
Proceeds benefit the VAEF classroom grant program. This program provides funding for district staff pursuing unique and innovative education opportunities for students in the district. Now in its 25th year, the VAEF has funded more than 275 individual projects, providing over $100,000 for projects at each of the area schools.
