Savanna Oaks Middle School (SOMS) just completed their National Geography Bee (run similarly to a spelling bee), based on geography in the world. Before the school bee each learner at SOMS participated in a class bee to pick the learner who will be representing their class at the school-wide bee.

Learners have 15 seconds to answer questions on basic things such as geography terms, states, countries around the world, continents, etc. After the learner has two questions wrong, he/she is eliminated from the Bee until three learners are left. The 1st place winner will then take a written test and the results are sent to the National Geographic Bee. They choose the top 100 students in the state to compete at the state level. In the past, SOMS has had several learners participate at the state level and make it to the final 10 students! The top state geography learner will go to Washington DC to compete in May. Learners have a chance to win a $50,000 scholarship, and a trip! Good luck to Simon!
