This is the image for the news article titled Do You Have a Special Request for Additional Bussing This Upcoming School Year? The Verona Area School District contracts with Badger Bus for our transportation services. Over the last several months, the Buildings, Grounds and Transportation committee of the Board engaged in an extensive study of our transportation practices. While this study encompassed a wide variety of transportation-related matters, the committee concentrated their research efforts on our current practices regarding distance from school and eligibility to ride the bus and use of walking or driving as a means to determine that distance.

The committee ultimately decided on the following:

• Maintain the distances for transportation eligibility as they have been in the past and per Board policy 751 (1.25 miles or more for students K- 5 and 2.0 miles or more for students in grades 6 – 12).

• The means of determining the distance to school will be by use of Google Maps, walking distance (this utilizes available bike / pedestrian paths).

The committee is cognizant of the fact that many families who don’t qualify for transportation services are very close to those distance thresholds. Therefore we want to notify families of transportation services offered through Badger Bus. These include such services as:

• Bus transportation for students who do not qualify for transportation using the criteria listed above. (this is a fee-based / “as-space-available” service)

• Pick-up needs for “morning-only” routes or “evening-only” routes

• Pick-up/drop-off needs for certain days of the week (rather than every day)

• Pick-up/drop-off needs at alternative locations other than their home address (there may be a fee associated with this option depending on drop-off/pick-up location)

These arrangements must be made directly with Badger Bus and requires parents to fill out the necessary service request form. This form can be found here.

Badger Bus will contact families on or before August 22, 2016 to inform them whether or not their request will be fulfilled. Once a request is granted, families may pay Badger Bus by mailing a check to:
